Why a match 3 game?
There is no big marketing plan or some scheme to ‘make it big’ in the mobile world, our decision to make a match 3 isn’t even about making a ‘practice’ game.
Its kind of pukey but it was made with genuine ‘feeling’.
We saw the movie ‘Wreck-it Ralph’ earlier this year; we both loved it, but I came out of the theatre candy obsessed…we stopped at (sorry trainers) Sugar station on the way home.
I was playing ‘Bejewelled’ (still a super solid game) but wanted to match candy (to match my current sugar high) so i went searching on the stores.
Now this was back in mid febuary so while candy crush was pretty popular there wasn’t really any decent similar ones (i swear i even ended up with a game that just spammed ads- no game just ads).
Candy crush was COOL at first but within a minute it became infuriating to play ; i went to look for a paid version and there wasn’t one so i deleted the ‘free’ to play and sulked.
Then it hit me “Naz is a developer…”.
Naz had just been thinking of doing something outside of work, so when i asked him if he could make me my ‘dream’ match game using stuff that i like; he said “sure”.
So while Naz went away on work for a couple of days, i made a bunch of tentative art to use.
The whole process of making a game has been incredibly fun, stressful, depressing, exciting but so super rewarding for both of us; we will keep making them.
